Started by members of the Na- tional Council of Jewish Women. the program continues to be main- tained in part by Council, with Mrs. Harry L. Jackson, a founder, serving as chairman of the steer- ing committee. Most of the funds for Operation Friendship come from the City- County Health Board and the Michigan Commission on Aging. "The Soviet Union seems intent on keeping that part of the world in crisis, thereby diminishing prospects for a political settle- ment, while gaining ever increas- ing political, economic and military influence in the area," the state- ment said. The statement was one of sev- eral approved at a three-day ses- sion of the NCJW executive board held here.
