and general causes at a Sheraton-Cadillac Hotel reception, Detroit
attorney David M. Miro (center) received the Jewish Theological
Seminary of America's 1970 National Community Service Award.
The presentation was made to him by Simon H. Rifkind (left), for-
mer federal judge of the Southern District of New York and execu-
tive committee chairman of the seminary's board of directors. Dr.
Max Arzt (right), the seminary's vice-chancellor, also was a guest
speaker at the reception.

Prof. Picard Honored

JERUSALEM — Prof. Emeritus
Leo Picard, who heads the Center
for Groundwater Research at the
Hebrew University, has been elect-
ed an associate member of the
Societe Geologique de France, an
honor confined to no more than 12
of the most distinguished foreign
scholars. Prof. Picard has just re-
turned to Israel after visit to
Germany where he consulted on
hydrological problems at the in-
vitation of the West German gov-
ernment. He reports that water
pollution is assuming 'serious pro-
portions in Germany and that in-
vestigations are now being made
as to the possibility of sending
young German scientists to the
course in groundwater research
at the University in Jerusalem.
