The class stayed at the homes of pupils from the eighth grade of the Billet Torah North Suburban Day School in Skokie. The eighth grade He- brew teacher, Samuel Betsalel, l S and his wife ac- companied the group. The stu- dents ate all their 1 meals in the cafe- teria of the Yes- hiva High School. The group trav- eled to and from Sheldon Chicago via Greyhound bus. The trips there and back, although five hours long, were a lot of fun for the students. Upon arriving in Chicago, the eighth grade went straight to the HMO Torah School, where they met the eighth grade of that school, as well as the principal, Rabbi A. Bruckenstein. He was kind enough to make all the arrangements for the Akiva stu- dents. That night the kids just went to their respective homes, and got acquainted with each other. The next day, students of both schools went on a sightseeing tour of Chicago. They visited such places as the Civic Center, where the students were im- pressed by the colossal Picasso which stands outside the center. They also went to the Chicago Sun Times Building, the Mer- cantile Exchange and the Pru- dential Building. That night, both classes went howling, which was most enjoy- able. The next day, the Akiva eighth grade boys went on a tour of the Hebrew Theological College in Skokie. They were taken on a full tour of the yeshiva, and even were allowed to sit in on a Gemora Shi'ur. All the boys were very im- pressed by the vast facilities of the school. That afternoon, the group visited the Museum of Science and Indus- try, which was for some, the high- light of the trip. The class then rode back to De- troit, where the weary eighth graders were met at the bus ter- minal by their parents. All in all, it was a most unique and enjoyable experience for every- one.
