Mrs. Max Stollman was elected
president of the women's division
of the Jewish Welfare Federation
before nearly 500 women attending
the recent annual meeting at the
Jewish Center.
Also elected were Mesdames N.
Brewster Broder, Norman Nai-
mark, George Stutz and Ben Moss-
man, vice presidents; Merle Har-
ris, recording secretary; and Wil-
liam L. Deutsch, corresponding
secretary.

Mrs. Harry L. Jones who has
served as president of the wom-
en's division and its campaign
chairman and as chairman of
the national women's division of
the United Jewish Appeal, was
unanimously elected a special
honorary member of the board
of directors. This is the first
time in the 24-year history of
the division that such action has
been taken.
In making the motion for Mrs.

Jones' election, Mrs. Phillip R.
Marcuse, chairman of the nominat-
ing committee, said "Jennie Jones'
high quality of concern, deep re-
serves of commitment, impressive
stores of intelligence and energy
and enormous artistry of articula-
tion are all combined into a glow-
ing gift of leadership."
Re-elected to the board of direc-
tors were Mesdames Daniel E.
Cohn, John N. Grekin, Merle Har-
ris, L. Jerome Hauser, Miles
Jaffe, Barney L. Keywell, Ben
Mossman, Julian Priver and Nor-
man Rosenfeld.
Elected for the first time to the
board were Mesdames Paul Bor-
man, Arthur Gould, John Green-
berg, Lewis Grossman, Maurice
Kurzman, Nathan Peterman and
Sheldon D. Stern. Mrs. Samuel
Schiff was elected to fill a vacancy
of one year in an unexpired term.
Mesdames Harry E. August,
Abraham Cooper, Seymour Frank
and Phillip Marcuse were re-
elected to the service advisory
council, and Mrs. Herman August
and Mrs. Benjamin Jones were
elected for the first time.

Chairman of the Women's
Division 1970 Allied Jewish Cam-
paign - Israel Emergency Fund,
Mrs. Stollman announced that
9,298 women had pledged a rec-
ord-breaking total of $1,149,202.
With hundreds of cards still to
be recovered, she predicted that
"the amount will be substantial-
ly more." She commended the
division chairmen for their en-
thusiasm, industry and devotion.

was "The Goldie Adler Show,"
with Mrs. Adler interviewing
three mother-daughter or daughter-
in-law teams of volunteer workers.
Participants were Mrs. Julian
Krolik and her daughter-in-law,
Mrs. Henry Krolik; Mrs. Arnold
Frank and her daughter, Mrs.

Robert Portnoy; and Mrs. Louis

Berry and her daughter, Mrs.
Harold Provizer.
Mrs. N. Brewster Broder was
chairman of the meeting; and Mrs.
Norman H. Rosenfeld, co-chair-
man. William Avrunin, executive
vice-president of the Jewish Wel-
fare Federation, also took part.
At a sherry party following the
meeting, pictures and art work
depicting the past 24 years of the
Women's Division were on display.

HUC-JIR Honors
Judge Levin, Syme

Two Detroiters will receive hon-
orary degrees at commencement
exercises of Hebrew Union College-
Jewish Institute of Religion this
weekend.
President Nelson Glueck con-
ferred an honorary degree upon
Judge Theodore Levin, U.S. Dis-
trict Court judge for the Eastern
District of Michigan; and the hon-
orary degree of doctor of divinity
upon Rabbi M. Robert Syme of
Temple Israel.

Thirty - seven members of the

senior class were ordained as rab-
bis and three invested as cantors.
Doctoral degrees were awarded to
11 graduate students.
