POPULAR WJR announcer-disc
jockey on the late night turntable,
Jay Roberts, is among the best
. . . Real name is Lefkowitz.
FOR EIGHTEEN YEARS Mr.
Lipschitz had lunched at the same
restaurant, and his order never
varied . . . a plate of borscht and
a package of soda crackers . . .
The waiter never bothered even to
ask what Mr. Lipschitz wanted
. . . he put the soup and crackers
in front of him, and not a word
was spoken by either . . . Sudden-
ly, one noon, Mr. Lipschitz called
over the headwaiter and announc-

CARRUMBA, MI AGIGOS, these
Mexican food, she is hot—but good,
but good! ... As you like it though,
if you leave your ordering to John
Carmona when you go to his new
little Tacorama Restaurant on W.
9 Mile Rd., just west of Woodward
in Ferndale . . . Remember suave
John the maitre 'd at Darbys? . . .
Its the same one who owns and
does the cooking at Tacorama .. .
The place is small (seats only
about 35,) but the food is real
good which after all, is the most
important thing . . . To make sure
you get the right goodies in Mexi-
can dining, let John do the order-
ing for you . . . Believe me, folks,
the right know-how in Mexican
cuisine is extremely important for
good taste!
NAME OF TURK PRUJANSKY'S
new spot in Los Angeles is Famous
Door on Wilshire Blvd., across
from the Lee Tower Bldg. . . . Its
a deli-restaurant and cocktail
lounge . . including a feature
called "Turk's Upstairs Music Bar"

ed, "I want you should taste that
borscht!" . . . The headwaiter was
taken aback . . . "For 18 years
now we've served you that same
borscht and never heard a
peep out of you," he protested .. .
"Nevertheless," Mr. Lipschitz in-
sisted, "today I want you should
taste it" . . . The headwaiter
shrugged his shoulders, leaned over
to taste the borscht, then said,
"But where's your soup spoon?"
. . . Mr. Lipschitz smiled triumph-
antly, lifted a finger, and said,
"Ah HAH!"
LIVONIA FOLKS TAKE NOTE
. . . there's a good pizzeria carry-
out that been taken over by com-
munity-ites Marilyn and Mel Kram-
er . . . They're the new owners of
former Pulise's, now known as
Midtown Pizza, on 5 Mile Rd., east
of Farmington Rd., across from
the City Hall.
THIS TIME FOR SURE I'll get
it straight! The name is JIM JEN-
DROWSKI, owner with Milt Klein
at DJ's Inn on W. McNichols, east
of Southfield.
THE TERM "RESTAURANT" is
believed to have originated in the
mid-16th Century, when medicinal
soup was called "resterant" . . .
One tavern famous for this soup
was called a restaurant by its pat-
rons . . . Other taverns soon took
up the name.
SO MANY LITTLE bars off the
beaten paths are serving delicious
hamburgers now . . . Being a
juicy hamburger man from away
back, I'm always on the look-out
for these places ... Latest is Irv's
Cocktail Lounge on Livenaois, be-
tween Dover and Joy Rd., across
the street from Orleans Poultry
. .. Owner Iry Helm.
HAVE A SHERRY MARTINI ...
Pour chilled cocktail or pale dry
sherry into a well-chilled cocktail
glass . .. Add an olive and twist
of lemon peel.
WASN'T TOO LONG ago when
a woman asked the owner of a
plush restaurant in New York if
she could enter wearing pants ..
"Only, madam," he said, "if you
are a lamb chop."
