ZOD Membership Campaign Goes On American Scholars Join Committee

At a second report meeting of the membership campaign com-
mittee of the Zionist Organization of Detroit, plans were made for a
champagne cocktail membership party, together with the annual
installation of officers, June 16 at the Zionist Cultural Center. Shown

Local Zionist Federation Assembly
Names National Parley Delegation
Seven delegates were chosen to
represent Detroit at the first con-
ference of the American Zionist
Federation to be held in Phila-
delphia May 28-31.
At the Detroit Zionist Federa-
tion assembly held at the Jewish
Center Monday evening, delegates
representing all local Zionist or-
ganizations and a number of frat-
ernal groups selected the follow-
ing as the community's delegation:
Dr. Arthur Feuer, Mrs. Doris
Fishman, Morris Lifshay, Rabbi
Leo Goldman, Aaron Kutnick, Dr.
Sidney Leib and Philip Slomovitz.
Alternate delegates in the order
of their preference to serve as
delegates will be: Zvi Tomkiewicz,
Mesdames Adele Mondry, Sophie
Zislin, Sidney Leib, Norma Hudosh
and Tillie Panush.
It was announced that Louis
Panush and Leonard Itadner
will be delegates representing
the Zionist Organization of
America; Mrs. Philip Slomovitz,
representing Hadassah national-
ly; Morris Lieberman, an offi-
cial national labor Zionist dele-
gate.

MRS. JAMES CLEMENT
Janice Elizabeth Scherock and
James Carl Clement were united
in marriage Saturday evening at
the Raleigh House. Rabbi M. Rob-
ert Syme officiated.
Parents of the bride are Mr. and
Mrs. Rudolph Scherock of Lucerne
Dr., Southfield and Mrs. George
Canale of St. Clair Shores and the
late James Clement.
Attending the bride were Carol
Blondy, Dinah Scherock and Naida
Simon. Ushers were Kenneth How-
ell, Joseph T. Clement, and Thom-
as Miriani. Sandra Miriani, the
niece of the bridegroom, acted as
flower girl.
After a honeymoon in the Virgin
Islands, the couple will reside in
Troy. -
Memorial Park Dedicated
for Haifa Mayor, Khoushy
HAIFA — A 300-acre park in
memory of Haifa Mayor Abba
Khoushy was recently dedicated
at Mt. Carmel.
The park is being planted by
the Jewish National Fund on be-
half of a public committee which
raised funds for the project in
Israel.
The park, situated between the
Technion and the Haifa Univer-
sity, will feature sports and rec-
reation facilities and a road net-
work linking the sightseeing obser-

The assembly on Monday eve-
ning was addressed by Pinhas
Cruso, New York Labor Zionist
leader, who expressed confidence
that the new American Zionist
Federation will re-establish pres-
tive of Zionism in this country.
Isidore Shrodeck, interim chair-
man of the Detroit Zionist Federa-
tion, who presided at Monday's
assembly, announced that addi-
tional fraternal delegates will be
welcomed and local organizations
and congregations are asked to
communicate with him for certifi-
cation of the delegates.
The founding convention of the
American Zionist Federation, at
the Sheraton Hotel, Philadelphia,
will be addressed by the top per-
sonalities in plenary and workshop
sessions, including Rabbi Arthur
Hertzberg of Englewood, N.J.,
author, lecturer and member of
the Jewish Agency Executive; Dr.
Arnuif Pins, chairman of the
American Zionist Youth Founda-
tion; Dr. Judah Shapiro, educator
and writer; Avraham Schenker,
head of the organization and infor-
mation department of the World
Zionist Organization; Rabbi Ema-
nuel Rackman of the Jewish
Agency and Yeshiva University;
Jacques Torczyner, president of
the Zionist Organization of Amer-
ica; Israel Ambassador Yitzhak
Rabin; Dr. Emanuel Neumann,
