Israel Fashion Festival Called Greatest Ever

The Israel Fashion Festival ,
noon June 1 at Cong. Shaarey
Zedek, featuring styles by Israel's
foremost designers, will surpass
any in the 19-year history of the
Israel Bond shows," said Mrs.
Samuel Hamburger, chairman.
The fashion show. preceded by
a luncheon, is the highlight of the
Detroit Israel Bond Women's Divi-
sion campaign. Mrs. Morris Adler
will commentate the show, co-
ordinated and staged by Sam Car-
dinal. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Allan
will present their ninth annual
"Star of Israel" diamond creation
as a prize. Eric Rosenow will pro-
vide the background music

Ancient costumes from the lands
of the Middle East lend inspira-
tion to the modern designs by such
couturiers as Linda Abraham, Lola
Beer, Sabina Jedlin, Finy Leiters-
dorf, Gideon Oberson and Pnina

sented in the Detroit premiere.

Israel Bond Women's Division
chairman, she is the leader of
thousands of volunteers.
Mrs. Peerce will present the
1970 sponsor pin to all paid-up
sponsors of Israel. Based on the
Hebrew letters "Shalom," it sym-
bolizes the desire for peace and
the blessing of the Cohanim. The
sponsor pin was designed by sculp-
tor Jacques Lipchitz.

Pharmacy Alumni Cite Dr. Blockstein

The Wayne State University Col-
lege of Pharmacy Alumni Associa-
tion will present a meritorious
award for significant contribution
to pharmacy to Dr. William L.
Blockstein at the annual pharmacy
alumni dance June 6 at the Carou-
sel Restaurant, Mount Clemens.
Chairman of the health sciences
unit of university extension and
profressor of pharmacy at the
University of Wisconsin, Dr. Block-
stein was assistant to the dean
and associate professor of phar-
macy at WSU before joining the
Wisconsin faculty in 1964.
Dr. Blockstein has served as
chairman of many professional
committees, authored more than
180 articles in his fields of in-
terest and edited seven books.
Among his honors are member-
ship in the University of Pitts-
burgh Hall of Fame, Distinguished
Detroiter (1963 citation of radio
station WJBK), the Distinguished
Faculty Adviser's Award of Wayne
State University, Distinguished
Service Award of the Michigan

JFCS HonorsVolunteers Bringing
Friendship to Lonely Jewish Aged

members of the nursing home vol-
unteer project committee, Samuel
Lerner, director of JFCS, outlined
the development of the program.
The first step was the formation
of sisterhood teams who visited
area nursing homes five times a
year to celebrate the Jewish holi-
days. These teams were developed
into groups that now visit residents
of 12 nursing homes weekly or

Mrs. David Stewart recently returned from Kansas City after at-
tending graduation exercises for her son, Dr. Daniel M. Stewart. Her
daughter Beverly also was graduated from the University of Michigan
as a speech therapist and her son, Dr. Ronald Stewart, recently entered
private practice in internal medicine in Sterling Heights.
Dr. and Mrs. Milford Golden of Ardmore Ave., Birmingham will
, host a cocktail and buffet party Saturday evening honoring the birth-
day of their cousin; Mrs. Celia Lefton of Manderson Rd. Friends and
relatives from Arizona, New York, Miami Beach and Flint will attend.
The children of Sol and Mollie Bloom will honor their parents' 55th
wedding anniversary Saturday. The Blooms, 10651 Saratoga, Oak Park,
are longtime Detroit residents. The children of the couple are Mitcheal
and Gerold Bloom, Mrs. Philip (Lillian) Bernstein, Mrs. Raymond
(Doris) Epstein and Mrs. Louis (Anita) Dorfman. They have 15 grand-
children and one great-grandchild. Mr. and Mrs. Bloom were mar-
ried in 1915 at the bride's home on Division St. Mr. Bloom who is now
retired was an employe of Western Union Telegram Co. for 44 years.
He has served as the only president, treasurer and secretary of the
Ordin family club for 33 years. Mrs. Bloom is a member of the Yetz-
Cohen Auxiliary of the Jewish War Veterans.
