Anders' Death Recalls
Jews' Role in His Forces

The death, May 12, of Gen.
Wladyslaw Anders, who comman-
ded the Polish troops in exile
who fought with the Allied in
World War II, recalls the role of
Jews in that era.
There were 1,200 Jews in the
Anders corps which for a time
was stationed in Palestine.
In 1946, after the war, Jewish
members of the Anders forces said
they would not return to Poland
because anti-Semitism was more
rampant there then than ever
before.
