Great Lakes Yacht Club
' Sets Early Bird Regatta

More than 200 racing and cruis-
ing sailboats are expected to par-
ticipate in Great Lakes Yacht
Club's Early Bird Distance Re-
gatta, to be held Saturday in the
Detroit River Yachting Associa-
tion's first sailing event for all
classes of sailboats in the area.
According to Rear Commodore
William Appel, over 24 distinct
classes of sailboats will race on
three .separate courses. The long-
est, the "L" course of 30 nautical
miles is for the larger racing and
cruising boats. The next smaller
boats will race the 21.3-mile "M"
course. The smallest cruising and
racing boats will race once or
twice around a five-sided course.

Fleet Captain Sanford Rossen
of Great Lakes Yacht Club stated
that it takes from 10 to 15 power
boats, from Great Lakes as well
as cooperating yachting associa-
tion clubs, to help stage this
regatta.

Following the race, participants
will attend a Gay Nineties sub-
scription buffet and dancing at
Great Lakes Yacht Club, St. Clair
Shores.
