Dropsie Professor's Spanish-Arabic Dictionary to Be Done in Beirut; Goldmann to Speak at University Offer Reprints of Essay Noting USSR Prejudices The New York Times Magazine printed an expose giving the most up-to-date facts on the anti-Jewish feeling now raging in the Soviet Union, and the Far Rockaway, N.Y. Jewish Community Council has arranged to make copies avail- able free to all who ask for it. Rubin R. Dobin, of Lawrence, N.Y., council chairman, is asking those who are interested in obtain- ing a copy of the article to send a request accompanied by a stamped, self-addressed envelope to the Council, Box 62, Far Rock- away, N.Y. 11691. The New York Times article, en- titled "On the Jewish Question in the Soviet Union," was written by a noted journalist and investigator who uses the pseudonym Ben Tzion. The expose was written be- cause the writer has become in- creasingly concerned over the sad plight of the 3,500,000 Jews in Russia. The material was gathered during the course of several re- search trips to the Soviet Union. In the article the writer cites fact after fact with the latest informa- ion on the systematic plan fostered and approved by Russian official- dom to denigrate the position of the Jew in the Soviet Republics and to deny him the most ele- mentary rights to develop his own religious culture and nationality. Dobin explained that the impor- tance of the article at this time is due to the authoritative rebuttal given to the denials of Russian leaders when they are confronted with the charges of Soviet anti- Semitism. Copies of the article will be made available for distribution inside Russia so that Russians in- tellectuals can read it first hand. Michigan is a four-season tourist attraction. PHILADELPHIA — The first literary Spanish-Arabic dictionary ever to be published has been authored by Dr. Frederico Cor- riente, associate professor of Semitic linguistics at Dropsie University. Titled "A Spanish-Arabic Dic- tionary" and containing more than 30,000 words, Dr. Corriente's work will be published by the Institute of Hispano-Arabic Culture in Ma- drid, Spain, and is expected to be released before the end of the year. The printing of the dictionary, which took Dr. Corriente more than two years to complete, will be done in Beirut, Lebanon, by the printing house of Dar al-Thaqafa. The only existing Spanish- Arabic dictionary is one written almost 300 years ago by a Fran- ciscan monk and deals primarily with the Syrian dialect. Dr. Cor- riente's work is the first since the 1Sth Century devoted to the written literary Arabic language. Widely known among scholars as a linguist, particularly in the field of Arabic and Semitic languages and as translator of many impor- tant publications, Dr. Corriente came to Dropsie two years ago from Rabat in Morocco. He was professor of Semitics and Hebrew Philology in the de- partment of Arabic languages at the University Mohammed V at Rabat and at Fez in Morocco be- fore coming here. Previously, he was director of the Hispanic Cul- tural Center of Cairo, Egypt, and taught for several years at the Cairo University in that country. Dr. Nahum Goldmann will come to Philadelphia to climax the 60th anniversary celebration of Dropsie University. Dr. Abra- ham I. Katsh, president of the post - graduate university, an- nounced that Dr. Goldmann will discuss "Peace in the Middle East" at a public lecture, Tues- day evening, in the auditorium at Dropsie University. Dr. Goldmann's lecture, which will climax a series of special events marking the 60th year of the institution founded by Moses Aaron Dropsie and its first year with full university status, will he Some German words are so long that they have a perspective.
