A TIME FOR CELEBRATION AND REDEDICATION THE ISRAEL 22nd ANNIVERSARY INAUGURAL DINNER Thursday, May 28, 1970, 7 P.M.—Grand Ballroom, Detroit Hilton Hotel SALUTE ISRAEL-WELCOME EDWARD G. ROBINSON+HONOR NATHAN FISHMAN EDWARD G. ROBINSON As we celebrate the twenty-second anni- versary of Israel's independence, we experi- ence a sense of joy, admiration and gratitude for the splendid achievements, the indomita- ble courage and the spiritual strength of the people of Israel in the face of many problems and crises. Our joy is tempered, however, by the realization that the prolonged struggle for a lasting peace is draining the meager eco- nomic resources of Israel — resources that would otherwise be utilized in the vital proj- ects necessary for the building of the country and for providing the homes and jobs for the new immigrants. Looking back over the past two decades NATHAN FISHMAN PRIME MINISTER'S MEDAL and more, we can see and appreciate what our role of economic partnership through Israel Bonds has meant for Israel's inner strength. Following the historic victory in the Six-Day War of June, 1967, Israel's leaders declared that without the reservoir of economic support by American Jewry not only in that critical period but during the many preceding years, Israel might not h'ave survived. As we all know, the situation today is no less critical than in 1967. More than ever, we are determined to stand by Israel as her most dependable ally on the economic front. It is in this mood of solemn determination that we dedicate our celebration of Israel's twenty-second anniversary to strengthening our unity with the people of Israel through Israel Bonds. On the occasion of our celebration on Thursday, May 28th, we will be proud to wel- come Edward G. Robinson, the dean of motion picture stars, champion of human rights and friend of Israel. At the launching of the 1970 Israel Bond campaign in Florida, Mr. Robin- son dramatically expressed the feeling of American Jewry when he said, "If Israel falls, we all fall with her." Mr. Robinson will be joining us in paying tribute to Nathan Fishman, who is celebrating his 75th birthday this year. Our community is deeply indebted to Mr. Fishman for a lifetime of humanitarian effort and devoted involve- ment in Jewish affairs and the cause of Israel. A highlight of the occasion will be the presen- tation to Mr. Fishman of the State of Israel Prime Minister's Medal for his many years of distinguished leadership in behalf of the estab- lishment and upbuilding of the State of Israel. We look forward to the May 28th dinner celebration of Israel's twenty-second anniver- sary as a timely and significant opportunity for a most inspiring demonstration of our sol- idarity with Israel. As we have done in the past, we in Detroit shall rise to the occasion, matching our faith in Israel with the kind of moral and economic support to assure that Israel shall live and prosper in peace and freedom.
