His book of about 100 small essays—anecdotes would be a better description, under the title "Israel Inside Out. - published by Abelard Schuman, will prove a delight. Of course, it is not a guide: it is a summation in fantasy and in lighter vein about a man's experi- ences in Israel. They carry with them many punches. They might irritate the thin-skinned, yet they are not the thick-skinned of bitter- ness but the appreciation of the elements that make up one of the most interesting societies on the globe. Geduld could be described as who has fallen in love with Israel. He has lived there with his family since 1962 and has met the people, has confronted the situations and has described the incidents — all from person- al knowledge — with a sense of good humor. There is such a vast variety of interesting items in this book that one must read it to appreciate it to the fullest. They are brief items. Some are less than a page, some two or three pages. In every instance what Geduld has jotted down represents good observation and kindly interpretation and evaluation. Take as a typical example his "You Can Take It With You." In less than a page of space, in this item, he introduces typical Israeli characters from many lands. He commences with the declaration: "Someone once wrote that Jews are the chameleons Of man- kind. And how. Israel is a man- kind in miniature." Thereupon, after presenting some of the characters from every- 2211 Woodward—WO 1-9494 i Ants °" .
