NoziParty'sMidavest Leader,Son of Jese„ May Face _Purge CHICAGO — Leaders of the American Nazi Party have been considering purging Frank Collin, Midwest "coordinator" for the party. His father is Jewish. The Jewish heritage of Collin, 25, was disclosed in The Chicago Sun- Times. Reached by phone, Robert Lloyd, Nazi executive director, said, "The party has a firm policy which precludes Jews from being mem- bers, and that policy is not about Course on Soviet Jewry at U. of C. BERKELEY — A full college credit course, titled "Soviet Jewry: A Case History of Oppression," is being offered at the University of California at Berkeley. "This is the first time that this important subject is being probed in depth on an academic level on any college campus, and we expect the students and religious school teachers who enrolled to become an important force in the effort to save three million Jews," stated Dr. Jerome B. Westin, chairman of the Soviet Jewry Ac- tion Group, sponsor of the project. Ten lecturers by Profs. Abba Lerner, William Brinner, Robert Alter and Alary Arnold, will probe the problems of Soviet Jews from the days of Czarist Russia right into present-day conditions. Harold Light, chairman of Bay Area (Calif.) Council on Soviet Jewry will lecture on the effec- tiveness of "grass roots" move- ments, their tactical considerations and action programs. The first lecture was delivered by Dr. Mar- tin Wolins to 98 attendants. Ie016141aAMD e EALSOTtA4tat easx Pala. to be changed. If the published information is correct, then, of course, Collin lied in his applica- tion for membership." Collin's father, Max, is the owner of a Chicago drapery busi- ness. He speaks freely of his Jew- ish birth in Germany and of three months in 1938 when he was im- prisoned in Dachau. After Collin was arrested in a raid on the party headquar- ters where police seized some 30 guns and 15,000 rounds of ammunition, his mother, Mrs. Virginia Collin, a Roman Catho- lic, revealed his identity. She said her husband was re- leased from Dachau and emigrated to the U.S. He had his name legal- ly changed from Alex Simon Cohn to Max F. Collin in 1946, three years after his marriage. Airs. Collin said her husband and son were in violent disagree- ment over Frank's allegiance to the party. She said that father and son have not spoken for years but that she occasionally talks to her son on the telephone. Collin, meanwhile, continued to deny any Jewish kinship. The Collin case recalled a simi- lar one in New York four years ago when a New York Times re- porter exposed the Jewish parent- age of Daniel Burros, a local chapter leader of the American Nazi Party and member of the Ku Klux Klan. In last week's paper it was re- ported that the American Nazi party had' changed its name and "rooted out some very irrespon- sible people," reemerging as the National Socialist White People's Party with plans to rally white youth and factory workers to "move the world." Collin, who declined to give the size of the party except to say it was "very small," declared the the New Left, the militant Stu- dents for a Democratic Society and SDS's ultramilitant Weather- men were Jew-run "enemies of the white community." He said the party's "main ob- jection to Jews is that they are involved in communism" and ex- ploit American Negroes, who should be "repatriated back to Africa. If The 10th of May is Mother's Day.
