Jewish College t o Award Degrees NEW YORK--A major break- • , through in higher Jewish education in this country was announced by Dr. Gershon Winer, dean of Berg- liah-Jewish Teachers Seminary. It overcomes the curtailed Judaic program in joint study arrange- ment,: between Hebrew teacher in- . ,ititutes and secular colleges or the need to undertake a double load of study far beyond the normal re- quirements for the B.A. degree. Beginning with the Fall of 1970 semester. students may qualify for the B.A. degree conferred by New York colleges by enrolling in a combined progam at Iferzliah- Jewish Teachers Seminary and one of the colleges in the metropolitan area. Majors in Jewish studies will he permitted to transfer up to 90 credits from Herzliah-J ewish Teachers 'Seminary to the college where they will be matriculating for the degree. Ilerzliah-Jewish Teachers Sem :nary now accepts candidates for the 1970-71 school year. The school offers two programs: the combined course of studies leading to a 13 A by a New York college and a spe cial program for students prepar- ing for the Hebrew or Yiddish teachers' license and the Bachelor of Jewish Literature (B.J.1...) de- gree. Students may select either course of study with full cedit. Admission to the teacher-train- ing program is open to graduates of secular and Judaic high schools or their equivalent.
