NEW YORK (JTA)—The United
Hias Service reported three flights
within 48 hours had brought 104
Jewish men, women and child im-
migrants to Kennedy Airport last
Wednesday and Thursday. The
newcomers, all assisted by HIAS,
came from Poland, Czechoslova-
kia, Hungary, Rumania, Egypt
and Libya.
Harold Friedman, HIAS presi-
dent, said the newcomers would
be able to observe their "first
Passover in freedom but there are
many left behind." Gaynor L. Ja-
cobson, ItIAS executive vice-presi-
dent, estimated that 3,000 Jewish
refugees and migrants, with HIAS - i
aid, would come to the United'.
States this year, compared with '
2.268 last year. He said more than ,
half would be from Poland.

Ex-131IS Administrator Urges
Impartial_ Study of Finances
Editor, The Jewish News:
From a recent article in The
Jewish News I learned with great
amazement that an agency of the
Jewish Welfare Federation, the
United Hebrew Schools, is object-
ing to an independent study of its
policies concerning the disburse-
ment of public funds. Having been
in the employ of the UHS for 10
years as teacher and administra-
tor, I am aware of the administra-
tive responsibilities to spend budg-
eted finances wisely and for the
maximum benefit of an afternoon
Jewish education.
It is true that excessive funds
are being used for the admini-
stration of a system of schools
whose enrollment has fallen
sharply in the last few years? Is
it true that an imbalance exists
between the funds used for a
transportation fleet as compared
to the funds assigned for direct
educational activities?
`Israel Committed
Unpardonable Crime'
Editor, The Jewish News:
Generally speaking, the world
has extended Jewry a measure of
compassion and sympathetic under-
standing . . .
The- peak of such sympathetic
understanding was reached about
the time of the "Miracle of God
—the Six-Day War." Writers. com-
mentators, military analysis, ex-
perts in the international field,
men of letters vied with each other
in lavish praise for Israel . . .
But, abruptly the whole pic-
ture was changed. The tenor of
things became tragically dif-
ferent. Many of those who had
praised the posture and accom-
plishments of Israel became
vitriolic critics and out of hand
condemned her as a malefactor
and a criminal.

Not Peaceful This Year
Editor, The Jewish News:
My heart feels very sad upon
this Passover season. My feelings
were aroused by the three edito-
rials on page four commemorating
the coming week. But we use the
words "trimuoh of freedom over
oppression," justice and fight for
freedom, it seems, only for our
