Mishkan Israel. The document conforms with the precept that a Jew must sell all leavened bread remaining in his home before Passover holi- day begins. Tradition provides, however, that the homeowner may hide away all hametz and transact a "sale" of the bread with a non- Jew. For this, a rabbi acts as inter- mediary for the members of his congregation and after the holiday, the non-Jew "returns" the bread to the seller. Rabbi Kranz said the mitzva is often neglected because it is considered inconvenient. For this reason, he sought the legal assistance of several attorneys, who drew up a "Delegation of Power of Attorney for Sale of Hametz." The legal form, which has been used successfully in New York and other cities was tried three years ago for the first time in Detroit It provides for the homeowner to m erely fill in his name and address and grant Rabbi Kranz the "full authority and power" to sell the I hametz "and to lease said place i r places wherin said hametz may be found upon such terms and upon such conditions as he, in his i absolute discretion,' shall deem fit i and proper." Rabbi Kranz stressed that the unleavened products will remain i n the individual's home, although hidden away. There is no cost, but the form must be returned prior t o the day before Passover. , FROM THE IMPORTER • • Mr. and Mrs. Alex Sklar of War- rington Dr. announce the engage- ment of their daughter Lois to Gary Stephen Kaplan, son of Dr. Earl Kaplan of Renfrew Dr. and The May 17 Independence Day festivities will conclude a series of "Israel Week" activities presented at the Jewish Center beginning May 10.
