AJCommittee Study Shows Charges Leveled by Pompidou on Chicago Visit Unfounded NEW YORK (JTA) — Charges by French President Georges Pom- pidou and his staff regarding their visit to Chicago last Feb. 28 — that demonstrators were unruly and ill- mannered and that the police were in complicity with them — are un- supported by the facts, according to a report released by the Amer- ican Jewish Committee. Among the eye-wit- nesses were high Chicago Police Department officials who accom- panied the Pompidous when they entered and left the Palmer House, where the demonstration occurred, and a security officer who also ac- companied them in and out. Other witnesses were city of- ficials assigned to the demonstra- tion, TV and radio reporters on the scene and several youths who allegedly accosted the Pompidous as they left the hotel.
