TAKE THE FAMILY

OUT TO DINNER AND A SHOW

0
S
T

When dressed for the evening,
the girls now-a-days
Scarce an atom of dress on them
leave;
Nor blame them; for what is an
evenings dress
But a dress that is suited for
Eve?
THIS SHOULD STRIKE home to
more than a few community-ites
. . . about the housewife who de-
voted most of her life to spending
twice as much as her husband
earned, complained constantly
about the apartment they lived
in . . . "All our friends live ten
times better than we do," was
her chorus. "We simply must
move into a more expensive apart-
ment." . . . One night, recently,
her long-suffering spouse came
home and told her, "Well, we
won't have to move after all. The
landlord just raised our rent."
SEEING SIGNS . . in the win-
dow of an east side store, reports
Lissa Gladstone, which recently
went bankrupt after only a short
while in business . . . "Opened
by mistake."
CALLING EUGENE GREEN-
FIELD . . Remember back in
1962 when your three-year-old
granddaughter, Rachel Poss,
daughter of Benjamin and Marilyn
Pass, was watching her father
davening mincha at home? . . .
Ben davened in a circular motion
. and suddenly, little Rachel,
her eyes widening, exclaimed,
"Daddy! You're doing the Twist!"
WALTER KLEIN, executive di-
rector of the Jewish Community
Council, sends us the latest Iron
Curtain story making the rounds
. . . concerning the family awaken-
ed in terror when a fist pounded
on the door shortly before dawn
. and then came the reassuring
voice of the janitor . . . "Don't
worry, folks, its only a fire."
AND SO HERMAN GOLDMAN S
so-called "friends" smilingly ask
how he's been . . . and with casual
"by the way," about tickets for
July 1 at Tiger Stadium . . .
That's the date Denny McLain
comes back to the Detroit Tigers,
with a good chance he'll pitch
either that night or July 2 against
the New York Yankees . . . Her-
man is head of the Tiger Score-
book among other Sportservice
and Bengal enterprises . . Open-
ing day ducats? . . . Herman is
used to those requests ... Reason
why he doesn't like to get too in-
volved is because the best seats
in the house are never good
enough!
FAVORITE STORIES . . . by
Arnold Blau . . about the clever
youngster who had figured out that
as long as no one saw him it
didn't matter if he took things
that weren't his own or played
on forbidden ground ... Whippings
and scoldings were of no avail .. .
The young offender would counter,
"But nobody saw me!" One day
his mother said, "God sees you.
God sees everywhere you go and
everything you do . . . The kid's
face flushed with indignation . . .
"Is that all He's got to do?" he
demanded with scorn. "Lay on
his stomach all day and watch
me?"

200-Year-old Mill
A 200-year-old working windmill,
De Zwaan, dominates the lowlands
and tulip fields around Holland,
Michigan. De Zwaan was brought
over from the Netherlands and re-
constructed and it is open to visi-
tors, according to the Michigan

Tourist Council.
