Zeta Beta Tau Absorbs 2 Other Fraternities

Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity, inter-
national intercollegiate men's or-
ganization, and Phi Epsilon Pi
Fraternity, Inc., have announced
that the memberships of their re-
spective fraternities have agreed
to and have approved plans to con-
summate a consolidation under the
corporate name of "Zeta Beta
Tau Fraternity Inc." The consoli-
dation is effective on all American
and Canadian college campuses
where the fraternities maintain
chapters and colonies, including
those at Wayne State, Michigan
State and U. of M.
ZBT last year effected a merger
with Phi Sigma Delta. The re-
sulting merged fraternity, Zeta
Beta Tau-Phi Sigma Delta, created
an international fraternity repre-
sented on more than 100 campuses.
The current merger—Zeta Beta
Tau. Phi Sigma Delta and Phi
Epsilon Pi, united under a com-
mon banner—creates an under-
graduate men's fraternity repre-
sented on more than 155 American
and Canadian campuses.
With a combined living member-
ship of 93,500, the consolidated
fraternity is now the eighth larg-
est, in terms of living members,
of all national collegiate fraternal
organizations. In terms of under-
graduate units, with more than
155 chapters and colonies it stands
as 6th largest.
Zeta Beta Tau, rounded Dec.
29, 1898, at the City College of
New York, was inspired by the
late Prof. Richard J. H. Gott-
hell of Columbia University. By
1902 it became a national col-
lege fraternity with chapters
throughout the New York area.
Its growth and development
mirrored that of college and
universities, and by 1969 it was

AJCommittee Proposes Voter Enrollment Plan

WASHINGTON (JTA) — The
American Jewish Committee pro-
posed a "massive campaign" to
increase citizen participation in the
electoral process with the specific
goal of 100,000,000 voters in the
1976 presidential elections. Its rec-
ommendations included the exten-
sion of voting rights to 18-year-
olds.

The plan, described as an appro-
priate way of marking the 200th
anniversary of American independ-
ence, was unveiled at a two-day
meeting of the AJCommittee board
of governors here.

governors concluded that "What
clear recognition by Christian
editors that Israel is no myth and
really exists."
Rabbi Marc H. Tanenbaum,
national interreligious affairs di-
rector of the AJCommittee, said
that the survey indicated that the
earlier "critical" view by Catho-
lics and Protestants of Israel has
turned to "a more sympathetic
and even-handed understanding."
