Swiss Milk, Cheese

GENEVA — The Joint Distribu-
tion Committee received more than
450,000 pounds of powdered milk
and cheese, valued at nearly $260,-I
000, as a gift from the Swiss gov-
ernment in 1969, Louis D. Horwitz,
director-general of the JDC, an-
nounced.
Expressing JDC's gratitude for
this contribution, Horwitz said
that without it JDC would have
had to divert funds needed for
other vital programs to purchase
the dairy products needed in its
feeding programs.
He pointed out that in 1969 JDC
spent about $7,000,000, or nearly
one-third of its budget, on cash re-
lief and feeding programs which
served some 155,000 in 27 coun-
tries. JDC receives funds for its
health, welfare and refugee assist-
