THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

AT METROPOLITAN AIRPORT
recently, Mert Colburn, Oak Park
councilman, noticed a young
acquaintance of his feeding money
into the machine that automatical-
ly issues insurance policies . . .
Staring at the fistful of policies,
Mert exclaimed that he really
must be scared of planes . .
and the young fellow replied,
"Naa, I always do this when I
fly. I send an insurance policy
to each of my girl friends, listing
her as my sole heir. And, MAN,
you'd be surprised at how that
succeeds in cementing relations!

GENE ROSENBERG, associate
producer of Henry K. Martin's
Sleeping Beauty in the Community
Arts Auditorium at the State Fair
Grounds, also takes a comedy role
in the production . . . The son of
Helen and Tom Rosenberg, Gene
has worked with the Center
Theater . . Both he and Henry
Martin are teachers at. Northern
High . . . Their rendition of Sleep-
ing Beauty is a "revised edition"
to make it more exciting for
children . .. The shows are 11, 1,
3 and 7:30 p.m the latter
time a first in lateness for chil-
dren's theater.

WHILE IN FLORIDA, Paul
Marx, wearing his fishing license
on the back of his hat .. . the
wears the same hat year after
year for good luck) . . . took 6-
year-old daughter Jeanne, fishing
with him . . . Paul wasn't doing
so good and finally little Jeanne
suggested, "Daddy, turn your hat
around so the fish can see your
license."

CALLING LES LIPSITZ . .
Remember back in 1946, your
father took jou to Work with
him? . . . He was a hard wood
floor contractor and you were
just eight years old . . . At
lunch and at end of day, when
asked what you wanted to be
when you grow up, you replied,
"A builder." . . In 1954. as
president of the Jewish Com-
munity Center Teen Age Coun-
cil, you and former governor.
G. Mennen Williams, put to-
gether a career conference . . .
After awarding the governor a
gold plaque for his interest in
young people, he asked what
career you had chosen . . .
"To be a builder" was your
reply . . . You have had your
ups and downs, Les, but now
your big chance has come .
You have been offered a part-
nership with a well-known
formed Detroit builder, now
doing great things in the build-
ing game around the hEami
Beach area.
YES, COMEDIAN Dick Shawn

is Jewish . . . He's originally
from Buffalo, N.Y. and his real
name is Shulefand.
BEBE DENBY sending greeting
cards to folks on all occasions
made us joke about her not send-
ing us one on George Washing-
ton's birthday . . - Well, not only
did Bebe send us one for George
. . . but so far, James Madison,
Andrew Jackson and
Grover

Cleveland as well! . . . (We were
only joking, Bebe!)
LOCAL MERCHANT who is
habitually handing cigars to his
friends with a "Take it, its a
business expense," received a
package recently . . . Inside was
a box of cigars, each encircled
by a . proud and gaudy band which
bore the name "El Deducto" . . .
P.S. They look like Havana but
smell like Cuban herring boats!
