Temple Israel 'Shabat for Today'
to Bring New Dimension to Worship

"Shabat for Today—A Service
for the '70s" will be the highlight
of Sabbath services at Temple
Israel 8:30 p.m. today.
The service, written by New
York composer and conductor
Gershon Kingsley, features instru-
mental music, choir and special
musical effects emanating from
the Moog (electronic) synthesizer.
Kingsley himself will be here to
conduct the music and to play the
Moog. His wife, Sheila Benow
Kingsley, a New York artist, will
direct the use of slides and light-
ing which create unusual visual
effects.

Best View of Israel
Atop Tel Aviv High-Rise

The top of the Eiffel Tower and
the Empire State Building are
sightseeing "musts" in Paris and
New York. In Tel Aviv, it's the
top of the Shalom Tower building
where, on a clear day, Israel can
be seen from end to end.
To the northeast are the hills of
Samaria, while to the southeast the
hills of Judea are evident. One
can spot the beginning of the
Negev desert far to the south and
the hills of Mt. Carmel and Lower
Galilee to the far north.
Outside the towering struc-
tures in the United States, the
Shalom Tower is reported to be
one of the 20 highest skyscrap-
ers in the world, and according
to some estimates, it's the tallest
building between Rome and
Tokyo.
Completed in 1967, the Shalom
Tower stands 30 stories high-460
feet above street level. There's a
nominal admission fee to the ob-
servation deck, where telescopes
and maps are available. There's
also a restaurant atop the tower.
The floors below contain office
space, a recently completed hotel
and Israel's first Western-style
department store.

tronic commercials.
A respected Broadway figure,
he has served as musical director
cf several shows. In addition, he
has been musical director for

senses with sight and sound.
At an oneg Shabat following the
service, Kingsley will join with
Rabbis Leon Fram and M. Robert
Syme and Cantor Orbach in lead-
ing a discussion with members cf

Unemployment in Israel
Lowest in State's History

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Labor
Minister Yosef Almogi told the
Knesset Tuesday night that Israeli
unemployment and relief have
dropped to their lowest levels in
the 22-year history of •the country.
Only 1,600 relief jobs were being
provided by his ministry this
month, he reported, compared
with 5,000 a year ago and 13,500
in 1968.
Unemployment, he said, is down
to 2.2 per cent, and his employ-
ment service continues to report
thousands of job openings.

Anti-Pompidou Protests Defended by Agency Aide

WASHINGTON (JTA)—Herman
Bookbinder, Washington repr e-
sentative of the American Jewish
Committee, criticized critics of the
anti-Pompidou demonstrations in
the United States, noting that
"there is no unanimous Jewish
'line' in this country."
Bookbinder, in a letter publish-
ed in the Washington Post, wrote:
"There may possibly have been
better ways to further the mutual
interests of America and of Israel
—there can be honest differences
on this—but what was done does
not justify the harsh and ominous
analysis that some have made of
it."
He singled out columns by Mar-
quis Childs and by the Rowland
Evans-Robert Novak team for de-
scribing the protests as "counter-
productive" and "disastrous."
"I happen to believe," Book-
binder observed, "that mass
demonstrations, even orderly
ones, to further public goals are
no longer effective or appro-
priate. But there is nothing Il-

closed circuit security television.

Charter House apartments are spacious,
complete, and beautifully finished — yet well within the price
range of those who merely "move out" but settle for humdrum
two story living. Two bedroom, two bath apartments ...
with balcony and a view — range from ;277 through $291
per month. Other 1 and 2 bedroom apartments rent for less.

Many unusual luxury and convenience features are included in
the rental. Charter House has a large game room and its own
barber shop and beauty salon. Our furnished models are open
7 days from 11 to 6. No need to call. Just stop in
... if only to enjoy the view.
