LT. RAYMOND ZUSSMAN

AUXILIARY No. 333

The Post and Auxiliary was instituted in 1945, to commemorate the
name of Lt. Raymond Zussman, who was awarded the Congressional Medal
of Honor posthumously for his heroic action as a tank commander in the
battle for the village of Noroy le Bourg in the Rhone Valley drive. He
was credited personally with destroying 17 enemy soldiers and the p
ture of 52, the capture of two anti-tank guns, a flak gun, two machine gin
and two trucks. He fell in Sept.. 1944.

Lt. Zussman's body was returned for reburial in 1948. Services
were held at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue on Sunday, June 6, 1948, and
interred at Machpelah Cemetery. Civic and military dignitaries were in
attendance to honor. one of 'the nation's heroes.
