that President Gamal Abdel Nas-

new MIG-23 jet' fighter bomber
from Russia. "He did not ask us
for the MIG'23 so we need not
discuss it," he told one reporter.
At one point in the press confer-

weeks ago after Israeli bombers
attacked a civilian metal factory

said the attack had been an
error.
An important feature of the cam-
paign has been the solicitation of
anti-Israel statements from Rus-
sian Jews, particularly those
prominent in arts, letters and
science and academic fields.
One of the most vocal partici-
pants in the press conference was
Deputy Premier Veniamin E.
Dymshits, the highest Jewish office
holder in the Soviet Union. The
proceedings were chaired by Leo-
nid I. Zamyatin, chief spokesman
of the Soviet Foreign Ministry, who
is not Jewish.
He opened with a statement that
those sought HIAS aid in locating
relatives. Sme 4,500 of them, be
said, have been resettled in the
United States, Canada, Australia,
Latin America and other areas.
Executive Vice President Gay-
nor I. Jacobson, indicated that in
1969, HIAS helped in the resettle-
ment of 6,400 persons around the
globe, including 2,485 in the U. S.
He predicted a comparable total
this year, including 3,400 Poles and
450 Mid Easterners.
Treasurer 'Carl Glick reported
that HIAS had gone some $500,000
over budget, largely because of the
Polish operation. The membership
approved resolutions urging the
Soviet Union to permit Jewish emi-
gration and calling for worldwide
emigration assistance to Jews in
Arab countries.
In a statement, Dr. Goldmann
said, "In the name of Jewish
communities in 65 countries, the
World Jewish Congress strongly
rejects the contention that the
curtailment of the freedom of
Jewish citizens in any country—
in this case the freedom of emi-
gration of Soviet Jews—can be
justified by any acts of policy
of the sovereign state of Israel."
The statement continued, "The
desire of Soviet Jews to emigrate
to Israel in order to live a full Jew-
