U.S.-Aided Wings at Hadassah Hospital
Dedicated ;- Michigan President Attends
JERUSALEM—Mrs. William Su-
rath of Midland, president of the
Michigan Region of Hadassah was
one of 24 Hadassah regional presi-
dents in Israel for the dedication of
new wings built at the Hadassah-
Hebrew University Medical Center
in Jerusalem with the aid of the
U.S. government.
The new wings house the de-
partment of social medicine, a
residence for doctors spending
their sabbatical leave at Hadas-
sah and an addition to the nurs-
ing school. The U.S. government
grant was $1,000,000.

Middle East area. By granting us
funds, the American government is
showing that it values this work."

orchestra, comprised, surprisingly,
of many young musicians and per-

Chajes' own composition, Pales-
tinian Melodies for Strings, was

gram opener, in honor of Jewish
Music Month. But in general he
wooed some very good sound out of

support of a grant from the Charles
E. Merrill Trust, the Philip W.
Lown Graduate Center for Contem-
porary Jewish Studies at Brandeis
University is offering a post-grad-
uate award for research in Jewish
studies. Prof. Leon A. Jick, direc-
tor of the Lown Graduate Center,
announced that the fellowships, in
amounts up to $5,000, would be
available to researchers pursuing
work which would contribute to the
field of Judaic knowledge. Applica-
tions will be accepted until May 1.
