NY Apparel Industry
Changes Ethnic Hands

Franklin Series- at WSU Will Bring
Economist Myrdal, Harvard's Dr. Wald

NEW YORK—Jews may in time
Prof. Gunnar Karl Myrdal, law-
lose their leading position in New
York's fashion industry both be- yer, economist and humanitarian,
cause of an increase in public and Dr. George Wald, Nobel Prize
ownership of Seventh Avenue com- winner from Harvard, will be the
panies and because of the entry of
Blacks and Puerto Ricans into
the trade, a noted fashion con-
sultant told a New York radio
audience here today.
Speaking on the WNYC "New
York Tomorrow" Program, Betty
Y.armon, fashion consultant and
author of the syndicated "Family
Finance" women's column, de-
clared that the ethnic trend in the
fashion world could lead to fewer
Jews in management roles.
This trend, toward more Blacks
and Puerto Ricans in the industry,
she continued, is healthy for New
York City.
