Young Violinist, Conductor to Team Up at Akiva Concert Young violinist Madeline Schatz will appear for the first time with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in the second annual concert spon- sored by the Akiva Hebrew Day School, 8 p.m. Feb. 22 in Ford Auditorium. Mischa Mischokoff, former con- certmaster of the Detroit Sym- phony Orchestra, will be given special recognition at the concert for his dedication and contribution to classical music. Sergiu Comissiona, musical di- rector of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, will conduct, in Ber- lioz' Overture to "Roman Carni- val," Ben Haim's Three Move- ments (from "Israel"), Bruch's Concert No. 1 for Violin and Or- chestra and Franck's Symphony in D minor. Proceeds will benefit the Akiva Hebrew Day School, which has Center to Build Outdoor Pool at 10 Mile Branch Albert M. Colman, chairman of the summer program committee of the Jewish Center, announces the Center has received a permit to construct an outdoor children's swimming pool at the 10 Mile branch of the Jewish Center. The pool is to be available this summer, providing expanded op- portunities for recreational and in- structional swim and shortening travel time for youngsters who live in the suburbs. Depth of the water, approximately 31/2 feet, can be lowered for younger children. In addition to this pool, deep water swim and diving instruction will continue at the Meyers Rd. Center. A lifeguard and pool staff will be on duty at 10 Mile, in addi- tion to the regular summer pro- gram staff. Summer transportation to North- west Detroit and suburban areas again will be available. The Center summer programs will consist of two four-week ses- sions, June 22-July 17 and July 20-Aug. 14. There also will be a Teen Camp program consisting of a three-week session June 29-July 17 and a four-week session July 20-Aug. 14. The 1970 summer brochure soon will be available.
