The critical acclaim accorded
young pianist MISHA DICHTER
in the United- States came when
the 24-year-old virtuoso returned
from the Soviet Union after win-
ning second place in the Interna-
tional Tchaikovsky Competition in
Moscow. Dichter comes to the Ma-
sonic Auditorium on Feb. 21. In
June 1966, when Dichter won his
prize in Moscow, he placed second
to a young Russian, but Dichtcr
was the popular favorite, and in
his concert appearances in Moscow
following the competition, he was
accorded ovations unequalled by
any of the other contestants. Dich-
ter's first appearance in the Uni-
ted States after the competition,
was with the Boston Symphony
under the direction of Erich.Leins-
dorf in Tanglewood, Mass., in 1966.
