Brandeis Women to Boost Library
of University at Book Fund Event

ance of the 10th anniversary of the
Goldfarb Library at Brandeis. A
sherry hour will precede the pro-
gram, and a tour of the Kasle Gal-
lery will follow.
Admission is by contribution to
book fund in any of three cat-
egories. A signed, framed, color
lithograph by Paul Jenkins will
be awarded to a donor.

The Goldfarb Library was estab-
scheduled by the Greater Detroit
Chapter of Brandeis National lished with the $1,000,000 gift of
Women's Committee 1 p.m. Feb. Bertha and Jacob Goldfarb of
New York, matched by $1,000,000
raised by the National Women's
Committee.
Complete responsibility for de-
veloping and maintaining the li-
brary rests with the Women's
Committee and its 75,000 members
throughout the United States.
The National Women's Committee
has set its goal of 878,000 books
for 1970, but so far is far from that
goal. It has accepted the largest
budget in its history to serve the
nearly 3,000 students and faculty
members. Books, journals, record-
ings and micro-films are part of
the teaching materials purchased.

borah to Alan David Goldsmith,

Miss Harold is a senior at Wayne
State University's Monteith College
and will continue her studies in
social work. Her fiance, a senior at
Wayne where he is affiliated with
Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity, wilt

Lieberman-Trepeck
Wedding Slated in July

MISS JOAN LIEBERMAN

Mr. and Mrs. Harry K. Lieber-
man of Winchester Ave., Hunting-
ton Woods, announce the engage-
ment of their daughter Joan Louise
to Steven Jay Trepeck, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert S. Trepeck of
Huntington Rd., Huntington Woods.
Miss Lieberman is a junior at
the University of Michigan major-
ing in education. Mr. Trepeck is a
senior at Eastern Michigan Univer-
sity majoring in accounting.
A July wedding is planned.

Spitz to Michael Farrel Abramsky
was announced in last week's paper
by Mr. and Mrs. Morris Altman of
Woodland Ridge, Orchard Lake:
Miss Spitz is the daughter of Mrs.
Altman and the late Mr. Wilbur
Spitz. Her fiance is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Sidney Abramsky of
Berkley Ave., Oak Park. The Jew-
ish News regrets the erroneous
omission of the late Mr. Spitz's
name from the announcement.

Pittsburgh announce the engage-
ment of their daughter Rosalyn
Ruth to Michael S. Walker, son of
former Detroiters Mr. and Mrs.
Samuel Walker of Pittsburgh. Miss
Cohen received her masters degree
from the University of Michigan.
Mr. Walker is a graduate of Mass-
achusetts Institute of Technology,
and is completing his doctoral
studies at Carnegie-Mellon Univer-
sity. A March 14 wedding is
planned.

Camden Sq., Southfield, announce
the engagement of their daughter
Sharon to Michael Glass, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Morris Glass of
Los Angeles. Miss Thomas re-
ceived a degree in history from

Glass attends Santa Monica City
College. A spring wedding is
planned.

planned.

Hot Soup for a Cold Day
Here is something good and sat- LI-6-0903.
isfying for a cold winter's day.
It is a thick green split-pea soup.
This soup will be welcomed at
lunch time accompanied by a
hearty sandwich, or a dinner as
a first course.
You can cook it together with
the meat that you are planning to
serve. If you use chicken, cook
it with the giblets and wings. '
Reserve the bigger parts for broil-
Mg or baking.
Serve this soup with small cubes
of fried bread—and be prepared
to be asked for seconds.

Jewish Meals

Giblets and wings of a chicken
or 1 pound meat for cooking
1 cup of spit peas 1 medium onion
6 cups water
1 potato
1 cube bullion
2 tsp. salt
1 carrot
Va tsp. pepper
1 celery stalk
2 slices of rye bread
1. In a big pot, put the meat, water
and peas. Cook for about 45 min.
2. Add the vegetables and seasoning.
Cook for another 46 minutes. The
cooking should be done on medium
heat. Add some water if necessary
to keep the same amount of liquids.
3. When peas and meat are . oft—take
out the meat and vegetables
.. Push
the soup and peas through a mash
sieve, or blend them in an electric
blender. You could, if you wish,
also blend or sieve the vegetables,
to make the soup extra thick. Taste
the soup and correct seasoning.
4. Cut 2 slices of rye bread into small
cubes. Fry them on all sides in a
skillet with hot oil.
5. Serve the soup hot with hot fried
cubes sprinkled on it.
Makes about 6 - 8 servings.
