NYC Hebrew Day School Leaders Vote Protest Action Against Federation THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS NEW YORK (JTA)—More than 500 New York City Hebrew day school educators and lay educa- tion leaders voted by acclamation Jan. 7 for a series of protest actions aimed at the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies if the federation did not respond to re- quests for funds the schools need- ed to end "a financial crisis." No date was set in the resolu- tion but a spokesman said that there was general i.greement on delaying such actions another four or five weeks. The spokesman said that the last meeting between He- brew day school representatives and federation officials was held last September and that since then, federation officials have continued to report that the request was "under study" by a commission. The resolution was adopted at a delegates assembly represent- ing 150 Hebrew day schools, which was convened by the Asso- ciation of New York City Yes- hiva Principals and Administra- tors. Some 50,000 children attend the affected schools. The spokesman reported that the debts of the day schools in the Federation gives subsidies to in- dividual Hebrew day schools but that the total of such subsidies last year was about $40,000, "less than a dollar per pupil." He said that teachers were talking about a strike, that parents of day school students were being "taxed to capacity," and that "frustrated and harried administrators" would not use new educational develop- ments because of "inflation and rising costs." &mina, C.o.him, PHOTOGRAPHY Weddings & Bar Mitzvas Prestige Color cotting French-made products.
