The campaign of the Women's
Division of the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign-Israel Emergency Fund was
launched Jan. 14 with a pre-cam-
paign luncheon meeting at Great
Lakes Club.
Dr. Arieh L. Plotkin, former
officer in the Israel defense forces.
told the 132 women present: "If
your community comes up with
twice as much money this year,
your government will know it, and
see it as an indication of the inter-
est of American Jews. It is a test
of power more important than tele-
grams and letters. And every dem-
onstration of real power is vital in
the formulation of government
foreign policy."
The women responded with
pledges totalling $630,000, a 20 per
cent increase over the 1969 meet-
ing.
