Paul Broder to Head Campaign Efforts by Janet Ilene Shaffer
of Trades and Professional Divisions

Paul Broder, president of the
Detroit Service Group, has been
named chairman of the trades and
professional divisions of the 1970
Allied Jewish Campaign - Israel
Emergency Fund,
it has been an-
nounced by Max-
well Jospey, cam-
paign chairman.
Broder, vice
president and
general manager
of the A. J. Arm- t;
strong Co., led
the trades and
professional divi-
sions to unpre-
cedented success
Broder
during the 1969 campaign. He was
formerly chairman of the services
division for three years. Broder
serves on the board of governors
of the Jewish Welfare Federation
and as a director of the Jewish
Vocational Service and United
Jewish Charities.
"The work of our local agencies

must be kept dynamic," Broder
said in accepting the position, "and
in Israel the struggle for survival
goes on every day. It can be seen
in the hospitals, in the schools and
in the faces of the immigrants who
continue to arrive, seeking hope in
the land of their forefathers. They
turn to us in America to help
them.

"I am looking forward to work-
ing again with the many able
men who have accepted the chal-
lenge and who will dedicate
themselves in the months ahead
to the arduous task of raising
money for the aid of the Jews
of Israel and of the world," he
said.

The funds raised in the 1970
Allied Jewish Campaign - Israel
Emergency Fund will be used for
the continuation of health, educa-
tion and welfare facilities in 30
countries around the world.

demands were flatly rejected by
the university's rector, Prof.

Peace Deal With Israel
Sought in Iraq by Briton

LONDON (JTA)—George Brown
the number two man in the British
Labor Party, is trying to convince
Iraqi leaders to accept a peaceful
settlement with Israel, the Tele-
graph reported from Beirut Sun-
day.
Brown, a former foreign secre-
tary, is touring Mid East capitals.
He was in Baghdad Monday and
was to visit Israel next.
The Iraqi leadership is taking
an intransigent line and clearly
anticipates a full-scale war with
Israel, the paper said. According
to the Telegraph, the Iraqis are
saying privately what Egyptian
leaders say only in public. "One
factor that has led to this is that
it now appears that the long-stand-
ing civil war between the Iraqi
central government and the Kurd-
ish rebels in the north is about to
be settled," the Telegraph report-
ed, and the border dispute with
Iran has cooled down too.
These circumstances would al-
low Iraq to deploy more troops
against Israel.
