THE MYSTERY IS SOLVED ...
and the big question has been an-
swered as to what that big red
bus is doing on the Rascal House's
parking lot . . . It's an authentic
English 56-seat "Midland Red"
double-decker from the streets of
London . . . now being used to
transport groups to and from their
affairs at the Rascal Ilouse . . .
and for renting out at $12 an hour
including a driver on the right

hand side . . . It's already booked
for opening day at Tiger Stadium.
THE BEAUTIFUL REMODEL-
ED Duffy's on Union Lake is no
more . . . at least for some time
yet . . . and popular Bobby Lau-
rel's engagement has been cut
short . . . The trio was playing a
set around 2 a.m. in the gala New
Year's festivity when people were
gotten out in orderly fashion . . .
Bobby had been whispered to that
the place was on fire and his soft
continuation of play did much to
avert any panic . . . Nobody was
hurt . . . Beautiful Duffy's went
up in flames and took with it one
of the very few things that could
never be replaced — Bobby's own
piano . .. It had been brought out
to the new Duffy's from his home
and was the one on which was
composed most of his beautiful
music.
I'LL GET IT RIGHT YET . . .
and this time for sure! . . . Abso-
lutely correct number of Gordon's
Kitchen on 12 Mile and Evergreen
for those delicious food take-outs
is 357-5948 . . . How's that, Harry
and Bunny?
BACK IN 1942, a fellow by the
name of Tony Quinn came to De-
troit . . . At the Club Trocadero,
boss Herman "Turk" Prujansky
was asked by singer Dick Haymes
if he could get Quinn a job in any
show that would be appearing in
Detroit at the time . . Today,
whenever great movie star An-
thony Quinn goes out of the coun-
try, he always remembers to
send "Turk" in California a card
or letter.
HARRY JARKEY at the 24
Karat for his eighth appearance,
is back from a two-month tour of
the far east .. . He performed in
Tokyo, Manila, Taipeh and Bang-
kok . . . Jarkey is an old time
comic around town and does a fine
job of entertaining in his indi-
vidual style.
FAVORITE DOWNTOWN SPOT
of WWJ radio star Bob Allison is
the Viking Lounge in the Congress
Motel off the Lodge X'way
Bob is an accomplished pianist
and takes over the 88 keys at
Viking in expert fashion . Being
of Danish descent, he is eligible
for membership in the Danish
Brotherhood Club and will be spon-
sored by Viking bossman Leib
Rosenberg.
PHIL FOSTER, Brooklyn born
comic tells the story of his mother,
who each week for years, went to
the same neighborhood movie
house . . . Because of the popula-
tion changes in the neighborhood,
the movie houses began showing
only Spanish films, but Phil's
mother still went there every
week . . . "But why, ma?" Phil
asked her. "You don't understand
Spanish!" ...His mother shruggnd
her shoulders and nodded, "Did I
understand English?"
BLACK RUSSIAN is a popular

delicious blend of vodka and coffee
liquer . . . enjoyed at any time,
especially by the ladies ... served
on the rocks . . . SCOTCH MIST
for the Scotch enthusiast who likes
his drink smooth ... is made with
fine imported Scotch and just a
wisp of lemon . . . Pour on the
rocks and serve.
PET PEEVES . . . Niteries that
keep you waiting to get in and then
sock on the ala carte menu be-
cause "it's after dinner hour!" ...
Overly fat waitresses . . . Chinese
waiters who act like they're mad
at the world.
WATCH OUT FOR PLACES
that charge you tax after the bill
has been totaled (including tax)
. . . If they'll do this, they'll do

anything!
