My soul expands with admiration, for the flower of your youth,
Wholely dedicated to a struggle unto death
For the preservation of their reborn nation, liberty and land.
I cannot, therefore, lament for those beloved and cherished ones
Who go down in the unequal struggle.
For I know they do so with She-heheyanu on their lips—
A hymn of thanksgiving for the boon bestowed on them
To live and die as purposefully as they do.
The beloved and cherished ones! Beardless Sabras that they are.
They barely tasted life and, ah. how they loved it!
Still, they readily surrender it for the defense
Of the inviolable trusts which they love still more.
In my sorrow for your fallen I do find some solace
In the conviction that the tale of their unfaltering stand
Against foemen twenty fold more numerous than themselves,
(Which already has become a universal byword), shall never fade
Out of human memory as long as Man continues on this earth . . .
