Arab Terrorists Proving `Ineffective,"
Israeli Author Tells Center Audience

The Arab terrorists are, no
doubt, a problem to the state of
Israel, but they are really ineffec-
tual." These were the words of
Raphael Rothstein, editor and
translator of "The Silent Warrior."
when he was the guest at a lecture
of the Jewish Center's Hebrew de-
partment.
The New Yorker has traveled
around the globe, and lived in
many different places for extended
periods of time, including a pro-
longed stay in Israel. He claims
that his views are that of an "out-
sider living in.•'
Rothstein explained that the peo-
ple of Israel must always live with
the threat of an Arab sabotage, but
it is "the fear itself that is the
problem, not the raids." According
to Rothstein, the Arab raids do
little damage and harm. Israeli de-
fense retaliation is more than ade-
quate to quiet the raids and subdue
them to "nothing more than an
everyday aggravation, like rush-
hour traffic."
