Ka-Tzetnik Airs
Grass-Roots Peace
Effort in Israel

A death camp survivor whose
best-selling novel about the Holo-
caust has sold more than 5,000,000
copies, was in Pontiac last week
to bring a message of peace.
Yehiel De-Nur, known as Ka-
Tzetnik 135633. author of "House
of Dolls," is in this country from
Israel in connection with the pub-
lication of his new book, "Phoenix
Over the Galilee," by Harper and
Row. De-Nur is turning over all
income from the book, already in
its third printing, to the establish-
ment of an Institute of Research
of the Arab-Jewish Problem in the
light of the lesson of the Holo-
caust."

De-Nur and his wife Nina, who
spoke at Temple Beth Jacob un-
der the auspices of the temple
brotherhood, are leading a Mid-
dle East "peace drive," and it is
toward new understanding be-
tween peoples that their book
was written.

Until his appearance as a wit-
ness at the Eichmann Trial, De-
Nur's identity was generally un-
known to the public. (Ka-Tzetnik
135633 is the concentration camp
number that De-Nur was assigned
at Auschwitz.)
Since 1963, the author and his
wife have opened their home once
a week as a meeting place for
Jews and Arabs in hopes of creat-
ing personal relationships.
