medals for her husband. Army 1st
Lt. Larry Steven Weil, who died
May 14 as a result of wounds. re-
! ceived in Vietnam.
Lt. Weil was the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Rolfe Weil of Cedarbrook Dr.,
.Birmingham.
He was graduated from .Bloom-
field Hills High School in June
1965, entered the service in No-
vember 1966 and arrived in Viet-
ham last January. He was assign-
ed to Company C. 3rd Battalion.
22nd Infantry, 25th Infantry Divi-
sion.
The citation accompanying the
Silver Star medal reads in part:
••While conducting a reconnais-
sance mission, elements of Com-
pany C came in contact with an
enemy force. In the ensuing bat-
tle. IA. Weil, with complete dis
regard for his own safety, COO-
stantly exposed himself to the
deadly enemy fire by maneuver-
ing and directing his men in
placing m aximum suppressive
fire on the enemy.
"As the battle progressed, Weil
discovered that his platoon ser-
geant was seriously wounded and
was lying dangerously close to an
enemy machine gun position. Un-
hesitatingly, Lt: Well exposed him-
' self to the barrage of enemy fire in
•an attempt to aid the 'wounded
sergeant. When he reached his
wounded comrade, Lt. Weil began
placing suppressive fire on the
enemy positions, while attempting
to withdraw the wounded man. It
was during the withdrawal opera-
tion that LA. Weil sustained the
wounds that cost him his life." -
