Barkin to Give Recital

Cantor Jacob Barkin will give
his first recital in the Detroit area
since becoming head cantor of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek, 8:30 p.m.
Dec. 10 in the social hall of the
syna vogue.
The free recital is being pre-
sented by the music and drama
division of the congregation's- cul-
tural commission.
Cantor Barkin will cover all
phases of the
musical s p e c-
oratorio. classi-
cal, Yiddish,
Hebrew and sa-
c r e d, covering
the works of
Mendels-
son, Handel and
others. He will
be accompanied
by his brother
Leo, a pianist, Barkin
who is recognized nationally in
his own right as pianist and ac-
companist.
For three decades. Cantor Bar-
kin has traveled throughout four
continents as both concert and
operatic tenor. Ile has performed
with most of the major symphony

orchestras, both in America and
abroad, sung before three U.S.
Presidents as well as. European
heads of state, and in the past six
years, sung in seven world pre-
miere performances of major or-
chestral and vocal works.

at Shaarey Zedek

A 16-foot-high menora, with its
nine flames powered by fuel oil,
will stand in front of Cong. Shaarey
Zedek, overlooking Northwestern
