Israel Expecting
Soviet Rejection of
New U.S. Peace Bid

JERl'SALEM (JTA) — Although
no official Soviet reply has been
given, diplomatic sources here
believe that Moscow will reject the
latest American proposals for a
Mid East settlement because of
the strong Egyptian opposition to
them.
The recent proposals by Wash-
ington call for a return to the
int••rnational boundaries that exist-
ed between Palestine and Egypt
before 1948. This would return
Sinai and Shama el-Sheikh to
Egypt but would leave the Gaza
Strip in Israel hands.
Diplomats here say that Egypt
in effect has already turned clown
the proposals in behalf of Moscow.
They noted that Egyptian propa-
ganda has been directed mainly
aeainst the U.S. during the past
tiro months and believe that
Cairo's position is the determining
factor for the Kremlin in the
matter.
(In Ottawa. Mitchell Sharp, Cana-
dian secretary of state for external
affairs said he would he "more
optimistic about the possibility of
Fast peace if a new United
Notions emergency force had been
reiniested by Israel and Egypt to
lie as a buffer between them.
(Sham met reporters on his
relPrn from an eight-clay tour
which took him to Teheran. Israel
and Cairo. He called the nresent
situation "dangerous" and termed
it "confrontation without conces-
sion from any part."
(Ile said that he had brought no
peace nronosals to his talks with
Premier Gold Meir or President
Gamal Abdel Nasser. Ile said that
a cooling down in the tone of
speeehes— an apparent reference
to Col. Nasser—would help im-
prove the Political climate in the
area. lie did not see any outbreak
of an all-out war imminent.)

Reveal Extent of Arab
Propaganda in Mexico

"There is no anti-Semitism in
Mexico, but Arab propaganda is
making some progress," said Gre-
gerio Shapiro, president of the
Jewish Central Committee of MC,: -
ico, at a meeting of the North
American executive of the World
Jewish Congress in New York.
The Arab propaganda campaign

in Mexico was not only anti-Zionist
and anti-Israel but anti-Semitic as
well, Shapiro said.
