CHECKER BAR-B -U

WE HAD OUR WEEKS kind of
mixed up since the California trip
. . . but tomorrow night for sure at
Hillcrest Country Club will be the
big first reunion for the 1939
January and June Central High
graduating classes . . . Guys 'n
gals are coming in from all over
the country and what started out
as a "maybe 200" gathering has
bloomed into an over 400 expect-
ancy . . . Yes friends, for sure it's
Saturday night!
IRVIN SPITZ was the victim of
a broken windshield while waiting
for buddy Herman Miller one very
early Sunday morning recently
outside his apartment building . .
The perfect aim of someone found
its mark after evidently becoming
annoyed by the horn-blowing out-
side . • . and threw something or
other at Irvin's car . . . Whoever
did it, picked the wrong car, how-
ever, and the noise continued . . .
Irony of it all, was that his horn
had gone on the blink the night
before!
THE BIGGEST BROTHERHOOD
event ever in the 15-year history of
Crescent Shrine Club is set for
Dec. 15, at the Raleigh House . . .
Crescent will host the Alhambra
Caravan Clubs (like the Shrine
order in Catholicism) of Oakland,
Macomb and Wayne counties . . .
Co-chairmen for the Brotherhood
Dinner are hard-workers Dave
Draznin and Max Haidy.
WHEN CONGREGATION Bnai
Moshe undertook its first theater
party last year for "Funny Girl,"
Simon Goldman was the chairman
of the event for the Men's Club ...
On the night of the affair, he was
hospitalized and had an operation
. . . The second annual theater
party by the Men's Club and Sister-
hood is set for Jan. 14 at the
Americana Theater to see "Hello
Dolly" . . . Simon is again chair-
man . . . and it is hoped by all
that he doesn't give a repeat per-
formance!

IT'S BIG PICKINGS AGAIN on
Antique Row, Hamilton Ave., be-
ginning at Six Mile, when the ave-
nue's fifth annual Victoria Holiday
Hike is put one Nov. 30 by the over
20 shops . . Antiques, paintings,
handicraft, etc. is on the red tag
agenda for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

HAROLD WEISS, feted on his
50th birthday by family and
friends, will never go broke . . .
Wife Ruthe has seen to that . .
She presented him with a frame in
which the sign of "50" was made
up of fifty coins.
TEEN TALKS . . . "I won't he
able to join the kids tonight. I
promised Dad I'd help him with my
homework."
NOW A SUCCESSFUL writer of
gangster scripts in California,
former Detroiter Marvin "Red"
Kahn learned angles in the hard
school of experience While we
were out there recently, he told us
about the neighborhood in which
he grew up before moving to De-
troit from New York It was so
tough, said Marv, that whenever
a cat with ears and a tail stalked
down the street, everybody knew it
was a tourist ... A hardboiled kid
who lived next door to him poured
a pail of water on a passerby, and
shouted a number of interesting
four-letter words as an accompani-
ment ... The infuriated passerby
yelled, "Come down here and I'll
beat the tar out of you" ... "Come
down?" repeated the offending
brat. "You're nuts. I can't even
walk yet."
