The annual institute of the Worn-
en's Division, Jewish Welfare Fed-
eration, will be held 9:30 a.m.-2:45
p.m. Dec. 4 at the Jewish Center,
Mrs. Joseph H. Jackier, president
of the division. announced.
"Brave the New World — The
Challenge of Change" is the theme
of the institute, part of the divi-
sion's continuing educational pro-
gram for Detroit women.
Dr. Marshall Sklare, Yeshiva
University sociologist and author
on contemporary American Jewish
life, will be keynote speaker.
Four conversation workshops will
be held during the morning. They
are:
"The Challenge of Change as It
Affects Youth," led by Dr. Morten
Plotnik, program director of the
Jewish Center, and Dr. Morris
Weiss, psychiatrist.

gan Civil Rights Commission, and
Irwin Shaw, director of the Jewish
Center.

Affects Our Young Adults," direct-
ed by Dr. George Barahal, Wayne
State University psychologist, and
Lawrence Jackier, attorney.
Mrs. Norman Naimark and Mrs.
Louis Berry are co-chairmen of
the institute. Session chairmen are
Mesdames Hugh W. Greenberg,
Morris Baker, Sheldon Stern, Bert
Smokier, Julian Tobias, Robert
Alpern, Milton A. Weiss and Rob-
ert Willens. Mrs. George M. Stutz
is adviser.

Schurgin-Hordes Club
Honors Octogenarian

Mrs. Elsie Schurgin was honor-
ed this week by the Schurgin-
Hordes Club on her 80th birthday.
To mark the occasion, the club
presented $600 in Israel Bonds into
a gift in her honor to the Jewish
National Fund.
Mrs. Schurgin has a daughter,
Florence Share; two sons, Arthur
and David; and eight grandchil-
dren.
The Schurgin-Hordes Club was
organized by the late William
Hordes. Assisting him in the for-
mation of the club, which makes
periodic gifts to Jewish causes,
were Mrs. Hordes and Mrs. Schur-
gin. The group carried Bnai Zion
insurance with the JNF as bene-
ficiary.
Mrs. Hordes said other gifts are
planned to augment the contribu-
tion to JNF in Mrs. Schurgin's
honor. available at

the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mi-
chael Beckerman Sherman and
granddaughter of former Detroit-
ers, Mrs. Max Grabowsky of Los
Angeles, and the late Max Gra-
bowsky, inventor of the Rapid Mo-
tor Truck and Grabowsky Power
Wagon in Pontiac in 1902-1903. The
couple will reside in Salon, France,
where Mr. Sprenzkowski is teach-
ing at the Air Farce College. They
will return to the United States in

1971.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Siegel of Huntington Rd., Huntington Woods,
took part in a United Jewish Appeal Young Leadership Mission. The
Siegels, who have been active in the Junior and Services divisions of
the Jewish Welfare Federation, visited UJA agencies in Israel which
resettle, train and care for the thousands of immigrants who seek
refuge each year. The participants in the tour also met with top Israeli
officials who briefed them on the present needs- of the country.

honor. Beatrice Berman of High-
land Park, N.J., Helene Lee,
Marilyn Kaplan, Mrs. Peggy
Sandler and Mrs. Estee Gottlieb
were bridesmaids. Audrey Gott-
lieb was junior bridesmaid, and
Susie Gottlieb of Toledo served as
flowergirl. Robert Gottlieb of
Toledo was best man, and ushers
included Michael Elkins, David
Kruger, Jerald Keller, Mike Kush-
ner and Barry Elkowitz. Mark
Gottlieb was junior usher. The
bride's grandmother, Sarah Sil-
berstein, was escorted by the
bride's uncle, Edward Silberstein.
After a honeymoon in Miami and
Nassau, the couple will reside in
Royal Oak.
