a surprise attack by the com-
bined Arab air forces had de-
stroyed Israel's air force and that

Tel Aviv was in flames after

being bombed.

Other BBC flashes said that Is-
raeli warplanes had attacked Cairo
and that Israeli troops were march-
ing on the Egyptan capital.
Americans in London likened the
incident to the famous 1938 "War
of the Worlds" broadcast when a
radio play utilizing simulated news
flashes caused thousands of Ameri-
cans to believe that Martians were
invading the earth.
The reaction of most British
viewers Tuesday night was anger.
But a BBC spokesman said that the
corporation has not considered
apoligizing to its viewers.
