Launch Urgent
$50,000,000
UJA Cash Drive

NEW YORK— "Vast sums
needed immediately to avert
curtailment of humanitarian
program s, UJA must raise
minimum $50,000,000 cash last
three months this year to meet
current commitments," cabled Al-
bert B. Adelman, national cash
chairman of UJA from Israel to
key communities throughout the
country. This urgent telegram
launches the UJA fall cash drive.
Adelman, in Israel with 350
top Jewish leaders on a UJA
study mission, explained that "with
total resources committed to de-
fense, Israel cannot meet needs of
absorption, rehabilitation, housing,
education and health without help."
Adelman and the study mission
appeal in the cable for "an all
out effort in communities to con-
vert pledges to cash now and re-
mit maximum cash possible."
Funds received from the fall
cash drive to redeem pledges
made earlier through hundreds of
community campaigns across the
country, will go to both the Israel
Emergency Fund, devoted to im-
plementing vast humanitarian pro-
grams for the hundreds of thous-
ands of immigrants the U TA
helped bring into the country, and
to the UJA regular campaign.

Freud Statue to Stand
Near Site of Last Home

LONDON — A statue of Sig-
mund Freud is to be erected here
where he spent the last years of
his life: the corner of Fitzjohn's
Ave. and College Crescent.
The statue is the work of Oscar
Nemon, an escapee from the Nazis
and the only artist whom Freud
ever sat for. The majestic work of
Freud has been in Nemon's studio
for the past seven years and fin-
ally was bought by the British
Psychoanalytical Society.
