Zedek. The dinner will honor
Shaarey Zedek's "Golden Minyan"
of presidents, who have guided the
congregation for more than 25
years.

Mrs. Nathan Goodman, of Tel
Aviv, formerly of Mt. Clemens and
Oak Park, announce the marriage
of their daughter Mrs. Ida Enkel
to Emmanuel Greenberg. Mrs.
Greenberg is a former Detroit
area high school teacher and coun-
selor. At present she is a teacher
of English in Seminar Levinsky in
Tel Aviv, the oldest teachers' col-
lege in Israel. Mr. Greenberg has
spent most of his life in Israel and
is a veteran of all its wars. Mr.
and Mrs. Greenberg reside in Tel
Aviv.

A special envoy of President
Franklin D. Roosevelt in Turkey in
World War II, Hirschmann nego-
tiated the rescue of 100,000 Jews
from the Romanian detention
camp of Transnistria as well as
other tens of thousands whom he
helped save from the Nazis.-

The nomination committee of
Sinai Hospital Board of Trustees
will present eight names to the
annual meeting of the corporation
at 8 p.m. Nov. 20, in the Zucker-
man Auditorium.
Dr. Sidney D. Kobernick. chief
of the division of laboratories and
pathology at Sinai and an asso-
ciate professor of pathology at the
Wayne State University School of
Medicine, will be the featured
speaker.

John XXIII, thousands of Hun-
garian Jews were saved from
the gas chambers in the summer
of 1944. Hirschmann was also
responsible for bringing about
the revocation of anti-Semitic
laws in Bulgaria.
After service with the War Refu-
gee Board, Hirschmann became
special inspector-general of the
United Nations Relief and Re-
habilitation Administration
(UNRRA), for which he reor-
ganized the Displaced Persons
camps in Germany. Since then he
had undertaken confidential mis-
sions in the Middle East for the
U.S. State Department, visited all
the Arab countries and met with
Nasser, Hussein and other Arab
leaders. He has made more than
a dozen survey trips to Israel.
Hirschmann has won the One
World Award, is a member of the
board of governors of the Hebrew
University and was chairman of
the board of trustees of the New
School for Social Research. He is
a former vice president of Bloom-
ingdale's and Sax Fifth Avenue
and is the author of "Lifeline to a
Promised Land" and "Caution to
the Winds," his autobiography.
