OBITUARIES

William Rosenberg, Early Telegrapher

William Rosenberg, a teleg-
rapher and supervisor for Western
Union Telegraph Co. for 55 years,
died last Saturday at age 96.
Mr. Rosenberg, a resident of the

Jewish Home for Aged, retired in

1944 from Western Union. He
was one of the first men sent to

the old Bennett field to relay play-
by - play the Tiger ball games. He
sent press box telegraphic reports
from baseball, football and other

sports events, including the World
Series games of 1907, '08 and '09.

Ile returned from retirement

during the war, taking a position
with Continental Aviation Co.
Prior to his work with Western
Union, Mr. Rosenberg was tel-
egrapher and secretary at the
old Detroit Stock Exchange.
A native Detroiter , Mr. Rosen-
berg was a past chancellor of the
Detroit Lodge 55, Knights of Py-

thias and was the oldest Pythian
