The Talmud states that a Jew
should pronounce 100 benedictions
every day. Since the daily prayers
have a number id benedictions. in-
cluding the 19 benedictions of the
main body of prayer winch is re•
cited three times a day, a good
number of these benedictions are
recited in the course of the pray-
ers. On the Sabbath, however. the
main bods of prayers recited three
times during the day, has only
seven benedictions instead of the
daily 19. Thus, a Jew might fall
short of the total of 100. Therefore.
he consumes some fruits from
time to time which gives him an
added number= of benedictions to The New York Board of Rabbis held a "Prayer for World Peace"

There was once a dispute be-
tween the sects of Jewish life re-
garding the Biblical commandment
which forbids the use of fire on the
Sabbath. The rabbis interpreted
the Biblical verse to mean that a
fire might not be kindled, but once
a fire was already kindled before TEMPLE ISRAEL: Services 8:30 p.m. today. Rabbi Fram will speak

at Temple Israel to
Feature Chajes

Temple Israel is planning a spe-
cial musical Sabbath 8:30 p.m.
Friday, when "Shahat Shalom,"
the Israeli service composed by
Julius Chajes, will he presented.
The service, which had its world
premiere in 1946, has been done in
scores of synagogues throughout
the years and was heard last at
Temple Israel five years ago.
Featured in the service will be
Cantor Harold Orbach, the Tem-
ple Israel Quartet and the Can-
tata Academy, under the direc-
tion of Chajes.
In addition to the traditional
music of the service, two new
psalms set to music by Chajes will
be performed. Cantor Orbach will
render the 98th Psalm, to be heard
for the first time in Detroit. This
was written by Chajes to celebrate
the reunification of Jerusalem fol.
lowing the Six-Day War.
The 142nd Psalm will be sung
by Sidney Resnick and Annette
Chajes.
