NEVER BEFORE HAS the an-
nual traditional past chancellor's
night of Knights of Pythias, De-
troit Lodge No. 55, been named for
anyone . . . But this year's Shin-
dig (date and place to be an-
nounced) will be a testimonial in
honor of Past Chancellor Ben Shiff-
man . . . Now 87 years old, Ben
lives at the Borman Hall and is
one of a small group of veterans
still living in all the United States
from the Spanish-American War.
. . . He's a wonderful guy and
highly deserving of this great
honor. . . . Everybody loves Ben
Shiff ma n !

THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

CALLING LOU MILLER . . .
Remember back in 1964 while
bowling in the Domestic Linen
League when you racked up a
healthy 660 series? . . . You car-
ried the proof around to show the
disbelievers . . . At one s p o t,
someone forgot to give it back to
you . . . You searched all over be.
fore reminding yourself where it
was . . . and then in the middle of
the night woke up an entire house-
hold to pick up the sheet.
WANT TO WAKE somebody up
in the morning? . . . Warren
Pierce, son of Ida and Louis
Pierce, will do it during his "any-
thing goes" show on W-TAK Radio,
6 a.m. to 9 a.m. . . . Warren, who
is also attending Detroit College of
Law in the evenings, has his own
talk show from Jim's Garage eat-
ery downtown, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

SOL BOESKY is a lucky man ...
Train hit his car with such force
that he was thrown out and suf-
fered only a fractured leg . . . His
- private chauffeur" nephew Bernie
Kerne walked Sol around Tel-12
Shopping Mall with brother Sam
Boesky alongside Sol's wheel chair
dressed as usual in dapper splen-
dor . . . All were given quite a
show at Rose Jewelry when Sylvia
Brilliant exhibited some men's dia-
mond rings being sold for $5,000
each.

IT MIGHT HAVE been cheaper
for Ted and Jewel Crantz if son
Frank wasn't one of the smartest
students in America today . . . He
was picked out of 500 applicants as
first choice for an all-expense-paid
fellowship at Cambridge College in
Cambridge, England . . . However,
that all-expense paid bit didn't in-
clude "incidentals"such as Ted's
shipping two trunks there for $226,
telephone calls at $30 for each five
minutes, etc. . . . Brother Larry
Crantz can now play telephone
often to England (at his own ex-
pense, that it.) . . . Frank gradu-
ated this June in arts and litera-
ture from University of Michigan,
where he was also awarded a na-
tional all-expense-paid scholarship.
. . . He'll major either in college
professorship or international law
. . . receiving his bachelor's de-
gree at Cambridge and his mas-
ters from Harvard . P.S. Frank
has already asked Ted and Jewel
to.renew his telephone credit card!

Teens Helped Find Jobs

KANSAS CITY (JTA)—Two out
of three Jewish students were
helped to find jobs this past sum-
mer, despite a poor labor market
caused by strikes, in the Jewish
Vocational Service summer job
campaign. The JVS, the Bnai Brith
Youth Organization and the Jew-
ish Community. Center cooperated
in aiding 109 high school and col-
lege students to find work to help
finance their education.
