The fund-raising affair, part of
a drive to raise $500,000 for Tech-
nion's new mechanical engineer-
ing complex, is being chaired by
industrialist Sam Rich, president
of the Detroit chapter, and will
feature addresses by Governor
William Milliken and Carl Alpert,
a member of the 'I'chnion board
of governors who is coming to De-
troit from Israel for the affair.
Technion, with 4,000 students—
up from 16 who attended classes
when it first opened in 1924—has
produced two-thirds of Israel's
architects and engineers and
trains agricultural experts and
physicians.
The school performs research
into new fiber-reinforced polymers
for the U.S. Air Force to develop
materials that will make possible
longer-ranged jet aircraft; does
malaria control research for the
U.S. Army Medical Corps and
sponsors and participates in sem-
inars for Far Eastern and African
nation's on subjects ranging from
agriculture to business adminis -
tration.
