Oscar Klausner,
Skater, Age 90

Oscar Klausner, a founder of
the Detroit Skating Club who was,
in recent years, deeply concerned
at discrimination against Jews in
skating clubs, died Sunday at age
90.
Mr. Klausner, 1250 Burlingame,
skated up until about two years
ago. Ile was well known in skating
circles for his encou r agement of
youngsters to take up his favorite
sport. lie was instrumental in get-
ting th,'e city to build artificial out-
door Skating rinks. his former
pupils included Olympic competi-
tors.
Mr. Klausner began: a study ,„;
of anti-Semitic backgrounds of
many prominent industrialists
with whom he had dealings and
had begun to compile data ex-
posing their prejudices.
Born in Vienna, he came to this
country in 1910. He war an ac-
compliShed interior decorator and
maintained a studio on Farmer
St. for 40 years.
Survivors include a nephew and
a sister, neither of whom lives in
Detroit.

A. Max Greenberg;
Founded Plumbing Co.

A Max Greenberg, founder in
1919 of the A. Max Greenberg
Plumbing Co., 14600 Wyoming,
died last Saturday at age 74.
Mr. Greenberg, who retired
from the business in 1960 was a
member of Temple Beth El, Lt.
Roy F. Green Post of the Jewish
War Veterans, University Lions
Club and the board of, directors,
Retarded Children's Group.
Born , in Russia, Mr. Greenberg
lived in the Detroit area 55 years.
He resided at 26260 Pembroke,
Huntington Woods.
Surviving are his wife, Ida; a
son, Russell; a daughter, Mrs.
Burton (Arlene) Siegel; a sister,
Mrs. Mildred Kiel of Phoenix; and
five grandchildren.

Dr. Eugen Felix died on the sec-
ond day of Rosh Hashana in Lon-
don. He was 77.
At the age of 10, he joined a Zi-
onist youth group and throughout
his life he remained active in the
movement. He studied medicine at
the University of Vienna; was a
co-founder of the Jewish Academic
Club "Robur" and- played an im-
portant role in the Jewish student
movement in Austria which, after
the first world war, numbered
some thousands of members.
Dr. Felix was a member of the
executive of Hakoah and in 1921
accompanied the team on its tri-
umphant tour to America where he
met Vladimir Jabotinsky and the
two men became great personal
friends. In Vienna Dr. Felix be
longed to the circle of Robert
Stricker, who was the only Jewish
member elected to the Austrian
Parliament. Whenever there was
a danger of pogroms in Vienna,
Felix together with others, formed
a Jewish defense group. He was
a co-founder of IGUL, an organiza-
tion of academic Zionists and he
published a directory of its mem-
bers which numbered about 1,500.
IGUL still exists in London, Tel
i Aviv and New York.
Felix arrived in London in 1935
and helped to found the "Unity
Group" headed by the late Dr.
Ignacz Zollschan; he was also a
member of the executive of the
Jewish State Party and after its
amalgamation with the New Zion-
ist Organization he was elected a
member of the United Zionist Re-
visionist Executive. He was a dele-
gate to the conferences of the Zion-
ist Federation and the British sec-
tion of the World Jewish Congress,
and a member of the Board of
Deputies of British Jews. He was
very active all his life, and ad-
dressed various meetings through-
out London. -
Dr. Felix leaves a widow, a
daughter and a son, Dr. Peter
Felix, the well-known sportsman.

Joseph Gluchowsky, 81

Joseph Gluchowsky, custodian
and warden of Painters Local 42,
died Sept. 18 at age 81.
A retired painter, Mr. Gluchow-
sky, 16863 Lilac, was in the process
of becoming a life member of the
painters union. He whs a member
of the Jewish American Club. Born
in Russia, he lived in Detroit 53
years.
Survivors are his wife, Ida; three
daughters, Mrs. Charles (Lillian)
Lebeaux, Mrs. Herman (Eleanor)
Shapiro and Mrs. Herman (Pearl)
Jaffee; and seven grandchildren.

Sir Harold MacMichael,
Palestine Commissioner

FOLKSTONE, England — Sir
Harold MacMichael, high com-
missioner of Palestine from 1937
to 1944, whose reigme was charac-
terized as a "tragic failure" by
Zionist leaders, is dead here at age
86.
Louis Lipsky, former president
of the Zionist Organization of Am-
erica, said the mandate under Sir
Harold witnessed the "destruction
of the last vestige of Britain's
covenant, with the Jewish people'
Seeking to maintain the author-
ity of the British governynt in
strife-ridden Palestine, he was an
extremely unpopular figure as up-
holder of colonial rule.

Yosef Tekoah's Father,
Saul Tukachinsky, Dies

NEW YORK (JTA) — Funeral
services were held for Saul Tuka-
chinsky, father to Yosef Tekoah,
Israel's ambassador to the United
Nations, who died here Sept. 16
in Mount Sinai Hospital at age 75.
Mr. Tukachinsky, who had been
the head of the Jewish commun-
ity of Shanghai, China, during
World War II, was active in Jewish
communal affairs in the borough
of Queens where he lived.
Other survivors are a son in
Tokyo and a daughter in Brazil.
