THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS
TAKE THE FAMILY
OUT TO DINNER AND A SHOW
AMONG THE MORE noteworthy
happenings in Downtown Detroit
was the recent purchase of the
Detroit Hilton Hotel by a group of
local businesmen and ,professional
people. . . . The transaction was
first announced in early July by
Fred Gordon, David Allan Kaplan
and Alan B. Grass, representing
the law firm of Bizer, Sommers
and Gordon, attorneys for the in-
vestment group.. , The new own-
ers wasted no time in continuing
the expansion and renovation pro-
gram initiated by the Hilton folks
. . . . All of the guest, rooms are
in the process of being refurnished
and refurbished, and the top floor
is being converted into a series of
luxurious tower suites connected
with the lobby by a private eleva-
tor car. . . Among the new own-
ers are. George Downing, Arthur
Boschan, Gordon, Seymour Kaplan.
Jerome Kelman, James Klain, Ed-
ward and Joseph Klein, J. Stewart
(Jack) Linden, Donald Loria, Sey-
mour Israel, Manfred Moser,
George Polasky, Norman Ross,
Harold Smith, Harold and Philip
Warren, Betty Weiss and Gerald
Wolberg. . . . Management of the
905-room hotel has been maintain-
ed by Hilton Hotels Corp. under a
long-term management contract.

Gerston had never played in a golf
tournament before . - - in fact, last
summer was the first time he ever
went out for the game. . . . How-
ever, while in Florida recently, he
entered a tourney being given by
the hotel he was staying at - . -
Max tried his best to appear un-
concerned, despite the crowd. . . .
He stepped up to the ball, swung
and missed. . . . He tried again.
and missed again. . . - A third
time it was the same story. - . .
Meyer looked at the spectators.
smiled and remarked, "Tough
